Business Launchpad

Don’t start a business because you watched a reel. Start one because you know what you are willing to give up for it, and you are in it for the long haul.

Why business

Most courses on starting up begin with the idea. This one begins with you

Don’t start a business because you watched a reel. Nothing about business is cool. It is daily slogging and execution, and it will test you in ways you cannot imagine. The future of your business does not depend on how you deal with the good days. It depends on how you deal with the bad ones.

I learnt that the expensive way. At 24, I started my first company. A year or two in, I had to admit something harder than failure. I hadn’t built a business. I’d just given myself a job, with no boss and nobody to blame but me. So I shut it down. It took me ten years to establish myself as an entrepreneur.

So this course does not start with the idea. It starts with why you want to do this, what you are willing to sacrifice, how much risk you can actually carry, and whether you are okay looking foolish in front of people. Only then does it get to ideas, validation, the business model, co-founders, costs and pricing, marketing, sales, the team, competition and money.

None of it is theory. I am a bootstrapped founder. No investors, nobody to answer to but my customers. I am still running my businesses while I teach this, and most of what is in here I learnt by getting it wrong first.

The three fears

What stops most people from starting is not the lack of an idea. It is fear, of three very ordinary kinds

Every one of them is real. None of them is a reason to never start

Judgement

What will people say if it does not work. Your family may not understand, and where there is genuine love there is genuine concern. Hear it. Then decide for yourself.

Failure

The fear of failing and looking foolish. You will do both. Be okay with it, and get up quickly, because success comes down to how fast you rise.

Security

The fear of letting go of the salary. Define your worst case, know your runway, keep twelve months aside, and the fear becomes a number you can plan for.

How quickly you recover from failure decides how successful you eventually become

Why this one

Why I make the extra time to teach this

Why teach this when you are still running businesses?

Because it took me ten years to establish myself as an entrepreneur, and most of those years went into mistakes nobody warned me about. I started my first company at 24 with nobody to ask. I make the extra time for this so that you do not have to learn every one of those lessons the expensive way.

Where does it start?

With you, not the idea: your reasons, your risk appetite, your runway, what you will give up. Nothing about business is cool, and I would rather you heard that before you quit your job than after.

Do I need an idea before I start?

No. Ideas are a commodity now. Execution wins. Two modules are about finding and validating one, and you do not need a business to validate an idea. You need 25 to 100 real buyers, and a pitch you can say in under a minute.

Will it tell me whether to raise money?

It will tell you what each option costs you. Funding costs equity. Debt or revenue financing keeps you in control. I am old school about this, and I will tell you why, but the choice stays yours.

Who is teaching it?

Someone still doing it. A bootstrapped founder who started with a business that failed, and is running his businesses today while he teaches this. No fancy frameworks, just what has worked for me, the hard way.

No. If a certificate is the thing you actually need, this is not the right purchase and you should keep your money.
