Communication Skills

This is not a course about better English. It is a course about better outcomes. What changes is not how you sound. It is what happens after you speak.

Why communication

Why start with communication, and not with anything else?

The question you had in a meeting and did not ask. The bold thing you did not say in an interview because it felt like too much. None of that was skill. Not one of those moments was decided by your vocabulary.

That is why communication is the first thing I am teaching and not the tenth. Every other skill you have sits on top of it. You can be the best person in the room at the actual work and still lose the room, and I have watched that happen to people far more capable than me, more than once, and it never stopped being painful to watch.

So this course does not begin with vocabulary, or accent, or grammar, or any of the things people expect a communication course to begin with. It begins with those three fears. Then it spends sixteen modules building you a strategy for working around them on purpose, in real situations, with real people who are not obliged to be kind to you.

Shashank in shadow, half his face lit.

The three fears

What looks like a communication problem is almost always fear, wearing a disguise.

There are three of them and they are the same three for everybody I have ever met.

Judgement

The fear of being judged.

Rejection

The fear of being rejected.

Failure

The fear of failing in front of people who will remember that you failed.

Letting go of these three fears can result in outrageous outcomes.

The curriculum

16 modules.

Every module tackles a real problem head on, with a strategy that has worked for me, not theory.

  • 01

    Why is communication skills important?

Almost every result that matters, a job offer, a sale, a second date, a raise, comes down to a person deciding something about you in the moment. That decision is emotional first and logical second, whether anyone admits it or not. Skill without knowing how to work with that gets you nowhere.

  • 02

Live Life Shameless — letting go of the three big fears

Judgement, rejection and failure. These three stop most people long before skill is ever the real problem. I spent my whole childhood being called well behaved when really I was just afraid.

  • 03

    The power of staying silent

Staying silent can be more powerful than anything you could have said. Confidence is not needing to prove that to anyone.

  • 04

The role of culture in communication

Culture is just a set of beliefs you happened to be born into. That does not make it better than anyone else’s. Real examples of how not to carry a regional bias, plus what I picked up living and working in Australia and Manila.

  • 05

The strategy behind opening a conversation and forming a relationship to achieve your desired outcome

Get clear on your desired outcome before you open your mouth. The structure I use for every pitch: context, then objective, something you can actually measure, then strategy, then exactly what you need from the other person.

  • 06

Listening Skills — Pretend to be the fool

Talking less and listening more, even letting yourself look a little slow, teaches you far more than trying to sound smart.

  • 07

How to explain complex problems simply and effectively?

Explain things assuming they know nothing about your world. Assuming they already know is one of the biggest reasons conversations fail.

  • 08

How to use key impact words and learn to communicate more effectively in English

You do not need better English. You need the handful of words that carry weight, and the confidence to say them plainly instead of dressing them up.

  • 09

The interview skills required to succeed and how to tackle “Tell me about yourself”

Every interviewer is really checking three things: are you genuine, credible and reliable. Not whether your answer is correct. I also tell you about the time I got caught claiming I had finished a book I had only half read.

  • 10

    Workplace Communication

The small habits that quietly build, or quietly wreck, your reputation at work. No one word replies. Actually saying thank you and sorry without it making you feel smaller. Disagreeing with someone respectfully instead of going cold on them.

  • 11

    The Art of Storytelling

How to structure a story using facts, not fancy language. I walk through a real example from my own business, Nerige Story, and how the same structure works in an interview, a sales meeting, or pitching to your own boss.

  • 12

Communication skills required in networking events

Walking into a room where you know nobody, and leaving having actually met someone. Not collecting contacts, meeting people.

  • 13

    Body language for effective communication

Why eye contact is the biggest sign of confidence. Why fidgeting makes you look restless and unsure. And why your own natural way of moving beats copying something you saw in a reel.

  • 14

    Tonality

Where you pause matters as much as what you say. The same technique you will notice in how senior leaders and public speakers talk.

  • 15

    How to overcome stage fear?

Three years ago I could not sit in front of a camera without freezing up. I made myself do it anyway, again and again, and that is the only method I have to give you.

  • 16

    Learn to ask

Most people never ask. For the raise, the referral, the introduction, the help.

Why this one

There are a hundred communication courses. Why this one?

How is this different from every other course?

A course is written before it is delivered. Somebody decides the syllabus, scripts it, and performs it, and every difficult question gets edited out before you ever hear it. Nothing here was scripted. The awkward questions are in the recording because somebody actually asked them while the camera was running, and you hear what I said when I had not prepared an answer.

Then how is it different from a podcast?

A podcast wanders, and it is made to be heard once and moved on from. This has a spine. Sixteen modules in a deliberate order, each one ending somewhere you can act from that same week. Come back to any of it a year later and you will find the same thing in the same place, which is not true of an episode you half remember.

Why does the two way format actually matter?

Most people never say “wait, I do not get that” out loud, not because they understood, but because it feels embarrassing to admit. My team says it for you. They ask the question you would be too embarrassed to ask, so you get the answer without ever having to raise your hand.

I’ve been there, done that. Still continue to do it.

Twelve years in sales, six years as a founder. Every lesson here came from failing at something, doing it anyway, and figuring out what actually worked. I still use all of it today, in my own businesses, this week. No fancy frameworks, just what has worked for me, the hard way.

So will this fix it for me?

This is not built for a certificate you frame and forget about. Certificates and degrees only carry you so far. A real shift in mindset is what actually changes your life, and that is what Course Cast is aiming for.

FAQs

Questions, answered plainly.

Including the ones where the answer is no.

Is anything added on top of the ₹499?

No. ₹499 is inclusive of all taxes, so ₹499 is exactly what leaves your account. There is no processing fee, no tax added at the end and nothing to pay later.

Do I get an invoice?

Yes. A GST invoice is emailed to you from support@startupwithshashank.com once your registration is in, showing the fee, the tax and the total.

How do I actually pay, and how do I get in?

Enroll now takes you to the checkout on the course platform. You pay and give your details there, and the moment it goes through you land on a confirmation page. From there you log in with a one-time code on the mobile number you registered — no password, and nothing for you to copy from one place to another.

What exactly am I buying, if the course isn’t out yet?

16 recorded modules on communication skills, delivered as a Coursecast, a conversation between Shashank and two or three of his own team, rather than a lecture read at you. The full module list is on this page, and it is the real list, not a teaser. It is recorded and finished. It is not being made up as it goes, and it is not a live cohort you have to attend at a fixed time.

When do I actually get access?

As soon as your payment goes through. You are taken to a confirmation page and you log in with a one-time code on the mobile number you registered at checkout. There is no batch to wait for and no start date, because nothing here is live.

What is a Coursecast?

A course and a podcast at the same time. Most courses have one person talking at you for hours. In a Coursecast, two or three of Shashank’s own team play the students and ask the questions you would ask, and he answers them the way he would in a real conversation, including the parts where he stops and corrects himself. You listen in on it. It plays fine on a phone, in pieces, and you do not need to sit at a desk.

Where do I watch it?

On the LMS, which is where the course is hosted. After you pay and fill in the form, you get an email and a WhatsApp message with your login. You can watch on your phone or a laptop, as many times as you want, for as long as you want.

What language is it in?

Tinglish — a mix of Telugu and English, the way people actually talk in an office, switching mid sentence when the sentence needs it. It is one course, not two separate language versions. A course about communicating clearly should not start by performing a language at you.

Can I get a refund if I don’t like it?

No, and we would rather say that plainly here than let you find out afterwards. The whole course is delivered the moment you get access, so there is no version of a refund that is fair to both sides. The one exception is if we fail to deliver it to you at all. Read the module list above and decide before you pay, not after.

Do I really get lifetime access?

Yes. One payment, no subscription, no renewal, no expiry date. If the course gets updated later, you get the update without paying again.

Is there a certificate?

No. There is no certificate and no placement support, and we are not going to pretend otherwise to make the sale easier. If a certificate is the thing you actually need, this is not the right purchase and you should keep your money.

Will this fix my English?

No, and that is the point. Good English and good communication are two different skills. Plenty of people with excellent English still are not getting heard in the room, and that is the problem this course is about.

Who do I contact if something goes wrong?

Reply to the confirmation email, or message the WhatsApp number in it, with your transaction ID. A real person answers. Keep the payment screenshot until your access has arrived, it is the fastest way for us to find you.
